Dr. Runa Basu, D.O. completed her residency in Internal Medicine from Highland Hospital in 1997. She also became Board Certified in Internal Medicine at that time. She then worked at Summit Medical Center as a hospitalist (managing hospitalized patients) and also has experience in working in Out Patient medical settings.
As a result of her internal medicine training and background, Dr. Basu has successfully consulted with many complex medical patients, with a range of diagnoses from chronic infections to cancer.
The internal medicine background differentiates her practice from other osteopathic practices that also have a hands on based practice. Similarly, because she provides a hands on treatment for each patient, she can aid in evaluating the effect of medications or supplements on the body. This added skill of palpation differentiates her medical practice.
Each visit with Dr. Basu, includes obtaining and evaluating your medical history, a medical exam as needed, and an osteopathic treatment. As a result of your visit, she may subsequently order further lab work, suggest alternate medications, and write prescriptions as needed.
Any medication changes will be discussed with your primary care doctor.
The management of your allopathic medications, health care maintenance, and emergencies are deferred to your primary care doctor.
As a result, all patients that are seen by Dr. Basu must maintain a primary care doctor as part of their health care team.
